The Governor has received reports of snowmobiles being driven on bare ground in Adventdalen, which is prohibited. It is to be expected that inspections will be carried out in the area in the future.

Missing skier found dead
The Czech skier who was reported missing on Monday afternoon has been found dead in a crevasse on Skilfonna in the south of Spitsbergen.

Rescue operation ended – searching for presumed deceased
The Governor of Svalbard has been searching for a missing Czech skier on a solo trip since Monday afternoon. In consultation with the Norwegian Search and Rescue Agency, it has been decided that the rescue operation will be ended, and the next phase will be to search for a presumed deceased person. The hypothesis is that the man has fallen into a crevasse on the Skilfonna glacier.

Establishment of temporary facilities for the summer season requires permission from the Governor. Temporary facilities are camps or structures that will be outside throughout the entire season, or large parts of it. Application deadline is 29 March 2026.
