The current Governor
Lars Fause took office as Governor of Svalbard on 24 June 2021.
Lars Fause came from the position of first public prosecutor at Troms and Finnmark public prosecutor's offices. He was assistant governor of Svalbard from 2008 to 2010.
Lars Fause was born on February 20, 1965 and graduated with a master's degree in law. from the University of Tromsø in 1991. He worked for a short period as a police assistant at the Oslo police district from 1992, further as a police lawyer at the Troms police district from 1993 and as an assistant judge at Trondenes district court in Harstad from 1994 to 1995.
From 1996 to 2002 he was public prosecutor at Troms and Finnmark public prosecutor's offices. He has extensive experience as chief of the prosecution in Troms and Finnmark, first in the period from 2003 to 2008, and then in the period from 2011 to 2020.
