Visitors
Individual visitors to Svalbard are obliged to familiarise themselves with applicable regulations.
Individual travellers travelling outside Management Area 10 must report their trip schedule to the office of the Governor of Svalbard no later than four weeks before the planned trip and report back after the trip.
Requirements are set for search and rescue insurance.
All tenting and camp stays in the same place for a week or more require permission from the Governor. Applications must be submitted to the Governor no later than four weeks before the planned camping stay.
Tenting and camp stays that require an application to the Governor must be secured with an alert and organized polar bear guard when there are people in the camp.
Travel to Svalbard by boat
If you are travelling to Svalbard by your own boat, please note that entering Svalbard in all cases involves crossing the Norwegian territorial border.
This means that you as the boat's operator must submit an advance notification with information about the crew and passengers on the boat. This applies even if the information appears in the trip schedule.
The advance notification must be submitted through SafeSeaNet Norway.
As the boat's operator you are also obliged to ensure that everyone on board has a valid travel document for entry to Svalbard.
