Recognises foreign driving licenses for a limited period


The Governor of Svalbard has decided to recognize foreign driving licenses for class B on Svalbard from today and until 31 December 2023 under certain conditions. One of them is that the driver's license must have been issued in a country that has joined the Vienna Convention.

With reference to the authority provision cf. Regulations on the Road Traffic Act with the validity of regulations on Svalbard part II, second paragraph, in addition to the provision on foreign driving licenses in Svalbard, the Governor has decided by regulation the following:

A foreign driver's license is recognized for driving class B passenger cars in Svalbard from today and until 31 December 2023 under the following conditions:

- The driver's license must have been issued in a country that has joined the Vienna Convention of 1968 on road traffic.

- It must be stated on the driver's license that this gives the right to drive a passenger car.

- The driver's license must be valid in the home country.

The Governor has informed the Norwegian Roads Directorate about the decision.
