Fined for illegal fishing
The Governor of Svalbard has fined a foreign fishing boat company for violating several regulations regarding fishing in Svalbard waters.
The foreign fishing boat company and the skipper were reported by the Coast Guard for illegal fishing in Svalbard waters in August 2025.
The Governor finds that the vessel has violated various regulations, including fishing in Kongsfjorden, which is closed to fishing activity; fishing in two areas north and east of the archipelago, which are closed to fishing to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems, as well as violations of duties in connection with the start and end of fishing in Svalbard's territorial waters and the fishing protection zone around Svalbard.
The Governor has imposed a fine of NOK 50,000 on the foreign fishing boat company and confiscation of the illegal catch; NOK 33,000.
The skipper has been imposed a fine of NOK 30,000.
The shipowner has accepted the fines. The skipper has not yet accepted the fine.
