Fined for not giving advanced notification of arrival
Four captains of various passenger vessels have been fined NOK 20,000 each for failing to give advance notice before calling at Svalbard's internal waters and Longyearbyen port in April and May. The fines have been accepted.
According to the Border Act and the Regulations on the Control of Travellers to and from Svalbard, § 7, must operators of seagoing vessels en route to or from inland waters or a Norwegian port, unless otherwise specified, submit information about passengers and crew to the police, and report the planned time and place of arrival and departure.
The relevant violations occurred in April and May 2025:
On Monday, 28 April 2025, a sailboat entered Svalbard's internal waters and Longyearbyen Harbor despite the fact that no advance notification of passengers and crew had been submitted to the Governor in advance of the call. The captain was fined NOK 20,000, which has been accepted.
On Wednesday, 30 April 2025, a sailboat entered Svalbard's internal waters, despite the fact that no advance notification of passengers and crew had been submitted to the Governor in advance of the call. The captain was fined NOK 20,000, which has been accepted.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a vessel entered Svalbard's internal waters and Longyearbyen Harbor despite the fact that no advance notification of passengers and crew had been submitted to the Governor in advance of the call. The captain was fined NOK 20,000, which has been accepted.
On Sunday, 18 May 2025, a vessel entered Svalbard's internal waters and Longyearbyen Harbor despite the fact that no advance notification of passengers and crew had been submitted to the Governor in advance of the call. The captain was fined NOK 20,000, which has been accepted.
