We are entering the Christmas season and yesterday's polar bear tracks near the town are a reminder that there may be polar bears in the area, so everyone going out on a trip during Christmas must take precautions.

The Governor of Svalbard has the following opening hours during Christmas:
23.-26. December: Closed
Wednesday 27 December: 10:00-14:00
Thursday 28 December: 10:00-14:00
Friday 29 December: Closed
Normal opening hours 10:00-15:00 from Tuesday 2 January.
