The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has warned of danger level 4 for avalanches for large parts of Svalbard tomorrow, Wednesday 22 November.

A strong increase in wind will lead to large wind transport of snow into leeward mountain sides. The strong wind and fresh snow will cause avalanches to detach themselves. Medium-sized avalanches are most likely, but some avalanches can be large. People are therefore encouraged to avoid all avalanche terrain. The avalanche warning applies to the following regions: Nordenskiöld Land, Svalbard east, Svalbard west and Svalbard south. See for more information and updates.

The daily avalanche warning that NGI prepares for Longyearbyen, which applies from today 21 November at 10.00 until tomorrow 22 November at 14.00, has a low hit probability (green level).
