NOK 100,000 fine for violating traffic ban in bird reserves


A local tourism company has been fined NOK 100,000 for violating the provision that all traffic in bird reserves is prohibited between 15 May and 15 August. The fine has been accepted.

In the period 16 June to 3 July 2023, an employee of the tourism company has on seven occasions sailed a vessel within the no-traffic zone at Gåsøyane in Isfjorden in Svalbard.

“The tourism company was fined NOK 100,000 by the Governor for the violation. The company has accepted the fine”, says assistant governor Katharina Rise.
