Recently, the Governor has received reports about the flight of drones in and around Longyearbyen. In connection with this, we would like to emphasize that there is a ban on flying drones within a 5-kilometre radius from the airport (see link to the right).

Violation of this prohibition will mean a police report and prosecution for the operator.

In addition to the prohibition zone in Longyearbyen, we would like to point out that there is also a zone of 20 km around the town with radio silence and a drone ban in Ny-Ålesund. This means that in practice there is a ban on flying drones in Ny-Ålesund and in the entire Kongsfjorden.
